Warwick the King-Maker

Philippe de Comines distinguished himself as an early historian of France, chronicling life in the courts of Louis XI and Charles VIII in his Memoirs. After becoming an orphan in his youth, Comines was taken in by his godfather, Philip V of Burgundy; he later served Philip's son Charles the Bold, Louis XI, and Charles VIII in various diplomatic capacities. His insightful accounts of his masters' reigns have earned him a prominent place among historians of his day.
