The Works of Edmund Burke. In nine volumes. Volume 5

  • Author: Edmund Burke
  • Primarily famous for his criticism of the French Revolution, this English statesman also composed several philosophical treatises. In Reflections on the French Revolution, Burke argues that whereas the American Revolution was an assertion of constitutional rights ? and therefore justified ? the French revolution was too extreme a deviance from pre-existing frameworks. His other works include A Vindication of Natural Society and Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents. Burke was one of Samuel Johnson's associates in founding the famous Literary Club.
