A craftsman, teacher, architect, mathematician and inventor, Peter Nicholson would also pen some thirty books that would rouse the interest of many architects and builders to come. Although his work began with an apprenticeship as a Scottish cabinet maker, he soon helped establish a "Philosophical Institute" in Soho, London, and produce the well-known Architectural Dictionary that found its place on many drafting tables. In Glasgow, the Carlton Place and its centerpiece, Laurieston House, stand even today as great testaments to his genius.
