Distinguished for his poetry, this author also became known as an innovator in landscape gardening. Shenstone's poems mostly relate to rural life; he also remains famous for his essays, collected in Essays on Men and Manners. In the last twenty years of his life, Shenstone devoted much effort to developing an elaborate garden at a Shropshire pasture-estate known as the Leasowes.
