The Complete Works of Michael Drayton, Now First Collected. With Introductions and Notes by Richard Hooper. Volume 3. Polyolbion, and the Harmony of the Church

  • Author: Michael Drayton
  • Born in the same Warwickshire as Shakespeare, Drayton mastered if not in the same quality than at least in the range of the great poets of his time. Like many gifted writers, he was never satisfied with his original works. He reworked and revised most of his poems throughout his life. Sometimes working with mythological themes, such as he did in Endymion and Phoebe (1595), and other times with love sonnets, such as he did in Idea's Mirror (1594), he produced his most finest work entitled England's Heroical Epistles (1597), which was modeled after Ovid's Heroides.
