Spanisches Theater. Band III. Schauspiele von Lope de Vega. Teil 1

  • Author: Lope de Vega
  • Cervantes dubbed Lope de Vega 'Monstruo de la Naturaleza' - 'Prodigy of Nature.' Lope was so well-regarded, in fact, that 'es de Lope' once meant 'it's perfect' in Castilian slang; more productive than any other known playwright, he penned about 2200 plays, 400 of them one-act autos sacramentales, in his career. Lope is credited with developing Spanish theatre, setting forth such standards as disregard of the three unities and separation of each play into three acts. Best known among his works are the popular histories Fuenteovejuna and Peribañez.
