Shelley by Francis Thompson. With an Introduction by George Wyndham

  • Author: Francis Thompson
  • Although Francis Thompson had planned to become a priest throughout secondary school, when it came time for graduation, the headmaster told him he was too dreamy and sickly to become a priest. Devastated, Thompson went to medical school, where he failed his examinations several times before giving up and moving to London to try his hand at writing. In London, he became addicted to opium following an illness and spent the majority of his life in addicted destitution or getting clean at a monastery. Throughout these episodes of rehab, Thompson was cared for and supported by Meynell family, who edited a magazine that published his poems.
