This British poet, known primarily for his compositions in the dialect of his native Dorset, also reputedly became quite accomplished in music and mathematics. What's more, he is said to have attained some knowledge of sixty different languages, all in spite of a meager upbringing. Barnes's works include Poems of Rural Life in the Dorset Dialect and many philological studies.
