Letters of George Meredith. Collected and Edited by His Son. In Two Volumes. Volume 2. 1882-1909

The only child of a family of naval outfitters, Meredith was abandoned by his father and left in the care of his relatives at age five when his mother died; yet he produced some of the most well-written literary works of English literature. He produced among others Modern Love, The Ordeal of Richard Feverel (1855) and The Egoist. For the last sixteen years of his life, Meredith suffered partial paralysis.
