Although it is not entirely certain that Sir Thomas Malory is indeed the man who wrote the beloved Morte Darthur, the first prose account of the Arthurian legend, it is fairly certain that Thomas Malory was something of a rake. He was arrested many times over his life, for crimes ranging from robbery to extortion to rape, and finished Morte Darthur in prison about a year before he died. The fascination with the code of chivalry had begun in the 12th century, and continued through Malory's time until the present.
