Lady Baltimore

After studying to be a composer and then a lawyer, Harvard graduate Owen Wister devoted himself to a literary career. His eventual fame was due largely to the success of his exciting Western novel The Virginian. As it happened, Wister's first book with a Western theme was also his last, but The Virginian is credited with firmly establishing ground rules for the genre.
