La religion. Mort-Immortalité-Religion.. Traduction de l’allemand avec autorisation de l’auteur par Joseph Roy

  • Author: Ludwig Feuerbach
  • Feuerbach, a German philosopher and former student of Hegel, once granted (with an important qualification) that "bathing, eating, and drinking" was "the summa summarum" of his work. This quasi-atheism - though he would deny being a complete atheist - expressed in his first publication, Thoughts on Death and Immortality, created quite a scandal, resulting in his dismissal from the German university at Erlangen. Unable to obtain a professorship afterwards, he married and later wrote his most notable work, The Essence of Christianity, which humanized theology and Christology into anthropology. It is often said that his biggest influence was upon the young Karl Marx, who while admiring him would launch a constructive critique of his views.
