Euphues. The Anatomy of Wit. Euphues and His England

  • Author: John Lyly
  • From the first of his plays, John Lyly's original style flourished - indeed, it came to be called 'euphuistic' after the work's title, Euphues, the Anatomy of Wit. The elegance and originality of his style earned Lyly immediate acclaim, and he wrote a sequel to the play, entitled Euphues and His England, along with Campaspe, Endymion, and Midas, the plots for all of which he borrowed from classical tales. Many scholars believe that Lyly's comedies inspired aspects of Shakespeare's early comedic style.
