Cyrano de Bergerac

A member of the Académie Française, Edmond Rostand wrote a number of unsuccessful plays and volumes of poetry before being catapulted to fame upon the premiere of his classic verse comedy Cyrano de Bergerac. None of his other plays matched its success, though his epic drama L'Aiglon was a great triumph for the actress Sarah Bernhardt.
