Black Beauty. The Autobiography of a Horse

In her writings, Anna Sewell strove to be the voice for the voiceless, and her tragic story of a highbred and sensitive horse, Black Beauty, was instrumental in efforts to reform the cruel treatment of horses in 19th century Britain. Although not a prolific writer (Black Beauty is her only novel), Sewell's work was incredibly popular during her lifetime and remains so today.
