1914 & Other Poems

  • Author: Rupert Brooke
  • Although his writing career was cut short by his premature death serving in World War I, the few poems the Rupert Brooke left behind have cemented his reputation as a crucial literary figure. Brooke wrote his first book of verse, Poems, in 1911, and published several poems in various journals. In 1913, he embarked on a world tour, writing some of his finest poetry in Tahiti. As the war started, he joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and traveled to Antwerp, after which he wrote his famous war poetry. He died soon after as his division traveled through Scyros, of blood poisoning.
