Friedrich Dotzauer (1783-1860),  list of works
Encouraged by his father to pursue a musical career, Friedrich Dotzauer studied the piano and violin during his childhood but eventually fastened onto the cello as his instrument of choice. He performed in public for the first time when he was fifteen, and only a few years later found himself playing in the court orchestra at Meiningen. Eventually ending up in Dresden, Dotzauer quickly rose to first chair in the city orchestra. His playing dazzled all who heard it, and his skills as a teacher resulted in what became known as the "Dresden school" of cello performance. Today, Dotzauer's pedagogical writings are frequently used in the classroom, and his compositions are cherished by scholars and listeners alike.
