|Benjamin Godard (1849 - 1895), list of works|
|Widely known as a child prodigy of near-Mozartean skill, Benjamin Godard eventually became a celebrated composer of short songs and salon-pieces for piano. Also a poet, he frequently provided his own lyrics—most notably in the large-scale works Symphonie légendaire and Les vivendières. The latter work, an opera, was a product of Godard's convalescence; the composer suffered from tuberculosis and died before the opera was complete. The remaining scenes were composed by Paul Vidal, and the resulting hybrid went on to become a major success.|
