Joachim Raff (1822 - 1882),  list of works
A disciple of Felix Mendelssohn and friend to such figures as Franz Liszt and Hans von Bülow, Joachim Raff viewed himself as a crucial figure in the development of Western music. He was, in his own eyes, the man who would bring together Baroque contrapuntalism, Classical structure, and Romantic programmaticism as a single unified style. During the latter half of the nineteenth century his name stood among those of such giants as Wagner and Brahms; no one doubted that Raff's music would have a profound influence in the coming centuries. But history was cruel to Raff—a brilliant and talented man who is all but forgotten today.
