A composer of changing worlds, Georg Frideric Handel abandoned successful careers in Germany and Italy to find work as a freelance composer in London. Primarily a composer of Italian-style opera, he managed to adapt quickly when opera went out of fashion; turning to the oratorio form, he went on to pen such masterpieces as The Messiah and Judas Maccabeus.
