Baldassare Galuppi (1706-1785),  list of works
The first composer ever to write an internationally successful "hit" opera (Il filosofo di campagna), Baldassare Galuppi stood among the finest Venetian composers of the eighteenth century. Though remembered almost exclusively for the operas he wrote later in life, Galuppi also turned out a remarkable amount of sacred music—much of it composed on Russian texts during his ten-year tenure at the chapel of Catherine the Great.
