|Claude Debussy (1862-1918), list of works|
|Creator of an "impressionist" musical idiom that combined pentatonic structures with Western tonality, Claude Debussy credited his success as a composer to his encounter with a Javanese gamelan ensemble at the Paris World Exposition in 1889. He went on to compose such classics as "Clair de Lune" (from the Suite Bergamesque), the Joplin-influenced Children's Corner Suite, and the orchestral work La Mer.|
