William Shakespeare. Love's Labour's Lost.
Elibron Classics, 2001, 124 pages.
ISBN 9780543898746 paperback
ISBN 9780543898739 hardcover
One of few plays for which Shakespeare reputedly created his own plot, Love's Labour's Lost tells the tale of King Ferdinand of Navarre and his three friends, who all swear to spend three years avoiding women in favor of study. The arrival of the princess of France and her three beautiful companions brings the oath to an end, and the four men set themselves to courting. The second apostrophe in this play's title is often ignored; it occasionally appears, bedraggled and abused, in the title of Joyce's Finnegans Wake.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616),  list of works
Most of what is known about William Shakespeare's life derives either from legal records or from spurious anecdotes. (Differing accounts of one eight-year period list his occupation as soldier, stable-boy, schoolmaster, and thief). Regardless of how he began, he ended as a playwright "not of an age, but for all time"; his influence is as strongly felt today as it was four centuries ago.
