|Pauline Viardot (1821 - 1910), list of works|
|Sister of the celebrated contralto Maria Malibran, Pauline Garcia possessed a three-octave vocal range and had composers clambering over each other to write operatic roles for her. Some of them also courted her, but she married the impresario Louis Viardot and allowed him to manage her career. Though she never thought of herself as a composer, Pauline Viardot made a point of writing songs in a vast array of international styles; it is for these and for her books of vocal exercises that she is remembered today.|
