| Charlotte Brontė. Jane Eyre. | | Elibron Classics, 2002, 344 pages |
| Charlotte Brontė (1816-1855), list of works | | | | Charlotte Brontė began writing as a child. Anticipating the powerful literary force into which this family would develop, Charlotte and her brother and two sisters wrote a vast and complex fantasy saga during their childhoods. After meager schooling, Charlotte became a governess and teacher, and published a book of poems with her sisters, under the masculine pseudonym Currer Bell. The poetry was not successful - just two copies of the work sold - but Brontė soon achieved great success with Jane Eyre, her first published novel, which shocked Victorian readers with its bold style and feminist outlook. |
