He helped establish the Christian Socialist movement, which hoped to raise the workers' standard of living after the industrial revolution through Christian work. He wrote politically based novels, historical fiction, poetry, and children's books; his most popular work, Water Babies, was based on his acceptance of and interest in Darwin's theories of evolution. |
