Emanuel Swedenborg distinguished himself in the natural sciences before a "spiritual crisis" saw him uproot himself from over thirty years of scientific scholarship and devote the rest of his life to theology. His better-known works include Opera Philosophica et Mineralia, from his days as a scientist, and the theological works Divine Love and Wisdom and The True Christian Religion. Swedenborg's followers founded the New Jerusalem Church, also known as the New Church, after his death.
