William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863),  list of works
Renowned as the author of Vanity Fair, Thackeray began his literary career writing satirical sketches for the British humor magazine Punch. Tiring of journalism rather quickly, he turned to longer forms and eventually found fame as a novelist. His remarkable if belated success as a writer contrasts strikingly with his miserable personal life; three years after their wedding, Thackeray's wife Isabella became hopelessly insane and was committed to a hospital for the rest of her life.
