William Harrison Ainsworth (1805-1882),  list of works
This author had hardly begun studying law when he abandoned it to pursue literature. Influenced by Sir Walter Scott, Ainsworth wrote historical adventure novels such as Sir John Chiverton and Crichton). Straddling the life of an editor and that of a writer, he worked for and eventually owned the periodical Bentley's Miscellany, replacing the discontented Charles Dickens. Eventually, Ainsworth founded a publication bearing his own name, Ainsworth's Magazine (1842).
