Replica of 1785 edition published in London.

Initially conceived as part of a book of etiquette for girls, Pamela is the story of a young chambermaid who catches the eye of her lascivious master (known only as "Mr. B."). When she attempts to leave his service, he kidnaps her, locks her in his country home, and makes repeated and disturbing attempts to ravage her. Highly controversial in its day, Pamela was parodied by Henry Fielding in the wickedly funny story Shamela.
