| Hans Holbein. Portrait of Sir Thomas More. (1527) | | Elibron Classics, 2001 |
| Hans Holbein (c.1465-1524), list of works | | | Although his work has been overshadowed by that of his son, the famous Hans Holbein, the Younger, Hans Holbein, the Elder, is an important artist in his own right. Living and working in Augsburg for the majority of his life, Hans Holbein taught his sons Ambrosius and Hans to paint in a Gothic tradition, while also passing along his knowledge of Italian Renaissance artists. His studio flourished, taking many commissions until the very end of Holbein's career, when other artists more skilled in the Italian Mannerist style of painting over took his older, more traditional style, and he was forced to close the studio. |
