A composition student of Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Feliks Mikhailovich Blumenfeld found work as a piano teacher at the same institution after graduation; he quickly went on to establish himself as a piano soloist and conductor. He premiered many works by his Russian contemporaries, at the same time finding a niche for his own pieces as well. Blumenfeld's compositions have not found an audience in more recent years, though his performances do survive on recordings and his piano methods are still used by countless teachers.
