Robert Louis Stevenson

1850-1894

A world-traveller despite his chronic tuberculosis, Stevenson is fondly remembered for his extremely eclectic output, which includes such works as A Child's Garden of Verses and Treasure Island. Stevenson also wrote a number of plays, all of them unsuccessful; he might be amused to know that his famous story The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was recently adapted into a successful Broadway musical.
