 | When Spohr was thirteen years old, he performed a command recital for the Duke of Brunswick. The Duke was so impressed by the young violinist's ability that he hired him on the spot; Spohr's experiences playing music and travelling with the duke would change his life. Later gaining renown as a composer of symphonic works, Spohr also made waves on the operatic scene, where his invention of the Leitmotiv (a type of operatic theme representing a particular character or concept) would not soon be forgotten. Spohr continued to concertize for most of his life, frequently with his wife Dorette providing accompaniment on the harp. | |
