Ernest Chausson

1855 - 1899

Equally gifted as a writer and composer, Ernest Chausson acquiesced to his father's request that he attend law school; however, he made no promises about the career path he would choose upon graduation. After a period of hesitation, Chausson turned to music, studying composition with both Jules Massenet and César Franck. In later years, once he had journeyed to Germany to hear Wagner's music (a trip which doubled as his honeymoon), Chausson became one of the most influential French composers of his day; unfortunately, his life was cut tragically short by a bicycle accident.
