Frédéric Chopin

1810-1849

Though Frédéric Chopin was renowned for his piano playing, he appears to have given only thirty public concerts in his entire life. Preferring composing and teaching to concertizing, Chopin authored a long string of memorable and inventive short works (including the polonaises, nocturnes, and mazurkas). Chopin was not fond of notating his works, preferring to play them on the piano while his friend Julian Fontana wrote them out on paper.
