Daniel François Esprit Auber

1782 - 1871

 

 

A student of Cherubini and ghostwriter of concertos for celebrated cellist Jacques-Michel de Lamare, Daniel Auber did not find his niche until he met the librettist Augustin-Eugène Scribe, who would be his lifelong collaborator. Together, the pair wrote a string of marvellous comic operas, including La sirène, Fiorella, and Fra Diavolo.
