Francesco Durante 1684 - 1755
|Disdaining the taste for opera that fueled the careers of his Neapolitan|
contemporaries, Francesco Durante rose to fame as a composer of sacred
music. At the same time, he earned high accolades as the teacher of such
future luminaties as Niccolo Piccinni—a vocation which may have afforded
him some degree of escape from the nagging of his shrewish wife.
