Tomaso Antonio Vitali

1663 - 1745

Son of the celebrated composer Giovanni Battista Vitali, Tomaso Vitali learned the violin from his father and eventually became leader of the celebrated Este orchestra. His music, much of which was published during his lifetime, betrays the influence of both his father and Arcangelo Corelli. Oddly enough, Vitali did not write the most celebrated piece attributed to him - the lovely Ciacona for violin and continuo.

Chaconne in G minor for Violin and Piano. Edited by F. David. Music score: $7.95. Paperback: $19.42
